Carton Flow Racks

Carton flow racks are the perfect storage rack system for warehouse facilities with rapidly changing inventories. Using carton flow racks virtually ensures proper turn-around of inventory and allows for dense storage. The racks save space and are easy storage units.

What are Carton Flow Racks?

New and used carton flow racks, also known as a gravity flow racks, allow employees to stock inventory from one side and pick from the other, which is known as a “first in, first out” method of inventory.

Inventory flows from back to front on either square or layback frames using wheels, conveyors and rollers that can help move the inventory from one end to the other. The back row inventory serves as reserved supplies that are easily accessible on demand.

Multiple levels of carton flow can be created, each having their own “lanes,” which is optimal for inventory control and for multiple, changing SKUs.

Static Shelving vs Ergonomic Carton Flow

Static shelving systems are inexpensive, but can be costly due to employees spending more time restocking and picking.

In a typical static shelving system, experts have determined that pickers can spend more than 75% of their time walking and searching for a product, which leaves little time for productive work.

With gravity flow racks, the opposite occurs. More than three-quarters of the day is spent being productive while the rest is spent walking. With ergonomic new or used carton flow racks, restocking speed is increased and the change in efficiency could eliminate the need for additional workers. Furthermore, an efficient carton flow rack system will reduce fatigue among employees.

Gravity flow also uses floor space more effectively, so fewer aisles are required, which means more goods can be stocked in the same amount of floor space.

As stocking and picking are kept separate, there are less accidents and time lost due to employee traffic interference.

Efficient Inventory Picking System

The first in, first out method is used on the assumption that the first goods purchased will the first goods sold. For example, a grocery store purchasing milk will stock its shelves with the ones that must be purchased first, right at the front of the cooler. Newer milk will be placed behind those cartons thereby allowing the milk with the nearest expiration dates to be sold first.

First in, first out is a great option for warehouse goods with a shelf life. However, it also a smart choice for those with warehouses manufacturing cyclical goods, such as fashionable clothing or tech products.

Varied Carton Flow Widths

New and used carton flow racks are easy to assemble and low maintenance. Used carton flow racks come in a variety of depths, including:

  • 36”
  • 42”
  • 48”
  • 72”
  • 84”

The width of the racks also vary between:

  • 12” width
  • 13” width
  • 14” width
  • 15” width
  • 16” width

The 1”, 2” and 3” centers are available while adjustable full lane dividers can be added.
